1986: bathtubs, one man and a van
Advanced Refinish began refinishing bathtubs in Austin in 1986, when the city was a fraction of its size and most people had never heard of refinishing. The idea was simple. A sound tub with a worn finish could get a new surface for far less than a new tub, and stay out of the landfill.
Why refinish instead of replace
Pulling a bathtub out is never just the tub. The tub’s lip sits behind the tile, so replacing it usually means tearing out the tile walls and the plumbing connections, then rebuilding all of it. The same goes for a tiled shower or a vanity top glued to its cabinet. Refinishing keeps everything where it is, costs a fraction of replacement, and is done in a single visit.
From bathtubs to every hard surface
Fifty thousand tubs later, the same process goes onto tile walls and floors, shower stalls and pans, sinks, cultured marble and laminate countertops, and hot tub shells, for homeowners and for hotels, apartment communities, universities and builders. We have refinished entire hotels, 151 guest tubs at the InterContinental Stephen F. Austin downtown among them, and plenty of 1950s bungalows one tub at a time.
The repairs that come with it
Chips, cracks, rust around the drain, soft fiberglass floors, holes left by old fixtures and grab bars, and the jetted tubs few companies will touch, all repaired before the finish goes on. We refinish and we repair. Remodeling and replacement tubs are someone else’s trade.

Trained in-house
Every technician is trained here, on our process, before working in a customer’s home, and most of the crew has been with us for years. The person at your door is an Advanced Refinish employee, never a subcontractor.
Preparation is most of the job
A refinish fails when the surface under it wasn’t prepared. We strip failed coatings, repair before we coat, then clean, etch and mask before the finish goes on. It takes longer. It is also why we can put a 5-year adhesion warranty on every surface.
Local and family-owned
The people who quote your job, answer the phone and show up at your door all work for the same small company in north Austin. There are no franchise fees built into your price.
Everything in writing
The price in writing before we start, the warranty terms with the quote, and a heads-up before anything is added if we find damage the photos didn’t show.
Any size job
One tub in a bungalow or a whole hotel. We run several crews. Each technician with helpers finishes three to four tub-and-tile units a day, so a large property is scheduled by adding crews, not by waiting.
